New Features
Proteus 9 is a major product release with performance and feature improvements throughout the software suite. It is also a change in platform architecture, being built with a brand new 64-bit application framework optimised for modern operating systems. The following is a summary of some major changes and improvements.
New features include:
- Application Framework:
Proteus 9 is designed from the ground up as a modern, 64-bit application supporting all international character sets. It has been built on a platform independent framework, enabling the development of Linux or Mac versions of Proteus in the future. It comes with support for light and dark themes, re-designed dialogues and object selectors as well as dedicated single user and portable install modes to make it easy for one person to work across multiple machines.
Framework Movie - PCB Design:
With PCB Design we’ve built on the new 64-bit architecture to deliver performance improvements across the board. Particular focus has been given to live zone regeneration times which are now orders of magnitude faster than in Proteus 8.
Power Planes Movie - Library part management:
This is an area we’ve given a lot of attention. A brand new managed libraries workflow throughout the software can restrict component and footprint usage to version controlled (or librarian approved) library parts. Auditing tools are also provided to check that the latest versions of a part is in use in a project.
Managed Libraries Movies:
Managed Libraries as a User
Managed Libraries as a Reviewer
Managed Libraries with Manual Versioning
Managed Libraries with Repository Versioning - Simulation:
General interactive simulation now benefits from a new system scope. This does not require a placed component but can be launched at any time on a running simulation. Probes can be placed or moved to signal lines of interest live as the simulation progresses.
The system scope and other instruments can be docked at the bottom of the window, saving screen space and allowing their use inside VSM Studio as well. Meanwhile, graph based simulation has also been improved to show live updates of the graph traces on the schematic preview as the simulation progresses.
System Scope Movie - Embedded Simulation:
Proteus 9 will aim to extend our support for MicroPython in Proteus VSM for both Visual Designer and IoT Builder. Additionaly target boards such as PyBoard are now included! Also included is support for FT232 chip in our MicroPython products to allow interfacing of a MicroPython simulation to the real world via serial communication protocols such as I2C or SPI.

Proteus 9 is a huge release and also includes many smaller user requested features such as a via inspector tool for board analyses or icon grouping options to realise more editor space.

It is also the foundation on which years of future Proteus product releases will be built, providing a modern, high-performance platform for future development.
